A Multimedia Presentation High School Lesson Plan By Amy Payne Goals: Students increase their understanding of the poet Byron Herbert Reece and/ or his poetry. Objective: Students will be able to express their understanding of Reece and/or his poetry through a multimedia presentation. Georgia Performance standards: This lesson meets the following standards: ELA11LSV2: The student formulates reasoned judgments about written and oral communication in various media genres. The student delivers focused, coherent, and polished presentations that convey a clear and distinct perspective, demonstrate solid reasoning, and combine traditional rhetorical strategies of narration, exposition, persuasion, and description. ELAALRL1: The student demonstrates comprehension by identifying evidence (e.g., diction, imagery, point of view, figurative language, symbolism, plot events and main ideas) in a variety of texts representative of different genres (e.g., poetry, prose [short story, novel, essay, editorial, biography], and drama) and using this evidence as the basis for interpretation. ELAALRL2: The student identifies, analyzes, and applies knowledge of theme in a work of American literature and provides evidence from the work to support understanding. ELAALRL3: The student deepens understanding of literary works by relating them to their contemporary context or historical background, as well as to works from other time periods. ELAALRC4: The student establishes a context for information acquired by reading across subject areas. ELAALRL4: The student employs a variety of writing genres to demonstrate a comprehensive grasp of significant ideas in sophisticated literary works. The student composes essays, narratives, poems, or technical documents. The following are Quality Core Curriculum objectives for a Multimedia class: 49. Determine the appropriate type of multimedia presentation based upon purpose, intended audience, life of the presentation, cost limits, time restraints, and equipment available. 50. Design and plan a multimedia project using transitions, build effects, sound, animation, video, word art, graphics, color, and scanned/digital images. 52. Manage files used in multimedia applications 54. Use storyboarding, outlines, branching, and time management organizational tools to plan multimedia projects. Suggested materials: Copies of books by and about Byron Herbert Reece, multimedia equipment (cameras, computers, sound recorders). Suggested time: The time allotted will depend upon the scope of the assignment as determined by the teacher and upon the equipment available.. Assessment Methods: A scoring rubric is attached. Learning Activities: 1. Teacher introduces the students to the author and samples of his work. 2. The class is divided into groups and each group selects or is assigned a poem or the author himself as the subject of the presentation. 3. Each group researches the poem or author and completes a planning sheet (attached). 4. Each group produces a multimedia video presentation.
